Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school with a current enrollment of over 1400 students in grades N-12, and a faculty and staff of over 350. The original Old Church Road campus is home to grades N-8. The new High School, established in 2019, is located less than two miles away on Stanwich Road. Greenwich Country Day School seeks a Middle School Humanities Co-Teacher, to start in August 2024. The Co-Teaching Program is designed for novice teachers who will benefit from a 3-day orientation program at the start of the school year, weekly professional development seminars, and mentoring, with a cohort of colleagues from various Divisions on the Old Church Road campus. The Humanities Co-Teacher will co-teach one section of 8th Grade U.S. History and a section of Middle School English and staff the Middle School Writing Lab, providing support to students with written assignments across disciplines. The Co-Teacher will engage in meaningful collaboration with Humanities colleagues and Middle School faculty. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching the Humanities and for working with Middle School aged students. Responsibilities Include:

  • Instructional responsibility for History and English in assigned grade level(s)
  • Collaboration with co-teachers to provide instruction
  • Collaboration with advisors, learning specialist teachers, and school psychologists to understand and support individual students’ learning needs
  • Participation in the oversight of the progress of each child in the subject area
  • Participation in the  assessment of all student's progress in both written and verbal reports
  • Communication with parents
  • Collaboration with colleagues on grade level and interdisciplinary faculty teams, Middle School faculty and staff, and the broader school community
  • Supervision of students during recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal as requested by the Division Head

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and approach to building a program beyond the current scope
  • A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
  • Willingness to take on multiple roles within the division
  • Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of young children - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor
