Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school with a current enrollment of over 1400 students in grades N-12, and a faculty and staff of over 350. The original Old Church Road campus is home to grades N-8. The High School, established in 2019, is located less than two miles away on Stanwich Road. Greenwich Country Day School seeks an Upper Elementary and Middle School Band Director; Middle School Music Technology Teacher to start in August 2024.

Responsibilities Include:

4th Grade Band Director

  • Rehearse Band once per week
  • Teach Trumpet, Percussion, Baritone, Tuba, and Trombone sectionals
  • Choose appropriate concert repertoire and Band method
  • Communicate with families
  • Purchase sheet music, equipment, and supplies for Band
  • Maintain music library
  • Maintain percussion equipment
  • Plan, organize, and lead six concerts per year
  • Organize instrument rentals for Financial Aid students
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the Upper Elementary Head
  • Introduce 3rd Grade students to Band instruments and match them with appropriate instruments

5th Grade Band Director

  • Rehearse Band once per week
  • Teach Trumpet, Percussion, Baritone, Tuba, and Trombone sectionals
  • Choose appropriate concert repertoire
  • Communicate with families
  • Purchase equipment and supplies for Band
  • Maintain music library
  • Maintain percussion equipment
  • Plan, organize, and lead six concerts per year
  • Plan and lead one day Band trip per year
  • Organize instrument rentals for Financial Aid students
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the Upper Elementary Head

Middle School Band Director

  • Rehearse 7th/8th Grade Band twice per week
  • Rehearse 6th/7th/8th Combined Band once per week
  • Organize and schedule small group lessons for all Band students
  • Teach small group lessons throughout the week
  • Choose appropriate concert repertoire
  • Communicate with families
  • Purchase equipment and supplies for Band
  • Maintain music library
  • Maintain percussion equipment
  • Plan, organize, and lead six concerts per year
  • Plan and lead one overnight Band trip every two years
  • Plan and lead one day Band trip every two years
  • Direct the Halloween Parade Band 
  • Collaborate with the Center For Public Good to arrange performances for local retirement communities.
  • Organize instrument rentals for Financial Aid students
  • Attend Middle School faculty meetings
  • Register and prepare students for Honor Band auditions 
  • Supervise and support band instructors teaching Jazz Band, lessons, and sectional rehearsals.
  • Engage in yearly professional development
  • Monitors Band budget 
  • Collaborate with the Communications department to develop content for social media 

Middle School Music Tech Teacher

  • Teach 1-3 sections of Music Tech

Required Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience
  • Proficiency in all Band instruments
  • Masters Degree in Music Education or Music Performance
