Greenwich Country Day School is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and team-oriented General Maintenance Worker to join the Facilities Department immediately. This full-time position is responsible for supporting the daily maintenance, repair, and overall upkeep of school buildings, grounds, and campus systems to help provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The ideal candidate will possess general knowledge of building maintenance, be able to respond to routine repair requests, and work collaboratively with the Facilities team on a wide variety of campus projects and operations. This position reports directly to the Facilities Foreman. Hours: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repair work throughout campus buildings and grounds
- Complete routine work orders and assist with general upkeep tasks across campus facilities
- Repair doors, locks, furniture, fixtures, ceilings, flooring, and classroom equipment
- Assist with preventative maintenance tasks and inspections
- Support event setup and breakdown including tables, chairs, staging, and campus logistics
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance shops, storage areas, and equipment
- Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively
- Assist with snow removal, salting, and other seasonal campus operations as needed
- Respond to maintenance emergencies and urgent repair requests in a timely manner
- Work collaboratively with custodial, security, and grounds staff to support overall campus operations
- Follow all school safety policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by Facilities leadership
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior experience in building maintenance, facilities, construction, or related trades preferred
- General understanding of maintenance practices and building operations
- Ability to use common maintenance tools and equipment safely
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor throughout the workday
- Valid driver’s license preferred
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Full-time position with occasional evening, weekend, or emergency response work as needed
- Work performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, bending, lifting, and carrying materials
